The zodiac is the belt or band of constellations through which the Sun, Moon, and planets transit across the sky. Astrologers noted these constellations and so attached a particular significance to them. Over time they developed the system of twelve signs of the zodiac (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces), based on twelve of the constellations they considered to be particularly important. The Western and Vedic zodiac signs have a common origin in the tradition of horoscopic astrology, and so are very similar in meaning. In China on the other hand, the development of the zodiac was different. Although the Chinese too have a system of twelve signs (named after animals), the Chinese zodiac refers to a pure calendrical cycle, as there are no equivalent constellations linked to it like the Western or Indian zodiacs. The common choice of twelve zodiac signs is understandable considering the interaction of the Sun and Moon was central to all forms of astrology.
The majority of Western astrologers base their work on the tropical zodiac which divides the sky into twelve equal segments of 30 degrees each, beginning with the first point of Aries, the point where the line of the earth's celestial equator and the ecliptic (the Sun's path through the sky) meet at the northern hemisphere spring equinox. Due to the precession of the equinoxes, the slow changing of the way Earth rotates in space, the zodiacal signs in this system bear no relation to the constellations of the same name but stay aligned to the months and seasons.
Practitioners of the Vedic astrological tradition and a minority of Western astrologers use the sidereal zodiac. This zodiac uses the same evenly divided ecliptic but approximately stays aligned to the positions of the observable constellations with the same name as the zodiacal signs. The sidereal zodiac differs from the tropical zodiac by an offset called the ayanamsa, which steadily increases as the equinoxes drift further. Furthermore, some siderealists (i.e. astrologers employing sidereal techniques) use the actual, unequal constellations of the zodiac in their work.

AstrologyReviewsI first discovered Cage when I bought "Hell Bent for Metal 2, A Tribute to Judas Priest". They did a killer cover of Freewheel Burning. I knew I had to find out more about this band. This is their second CD. They have four out right now and a fifth one in the works. There are not enough adjectives to describe how good this band is. Everything about this band is phenomenal from the powerhouse vox of Sean Peck, the songwriting and every other aspect of this cd is great. If these guys were around during the late 70s and early 80s they would have owned that era. Do yourself a favor. Stop reading this review and buy their CD. Your still here! Go! What are you waiting for? This album sounded like an audible version of human waste. I was so angry, when I heard the cd I lost control of my bowels. Too bad there wasn't a 'no star' option. AFTER I GOT THE '' UNVEILED '' CD , I WAS SO BLOWN AWAY AT HOW GOOD AND HEAVR THESE GUYS WERE ..AND HOPED THAT THEY WOULD NOT DISAPPEAR LIKE ALL THE OTHER METAL BANDS THAT COULDN'T CUT IT !WHEN I HEARD THEY HAD A NEW CD OUT , I GOT IT AS FAST AS I COULD SPEND MY CASH!I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH HOW INCREDIBLY GOOD THESE GUYS ACTUALLY ARE !THEY TAKE ME BACK TO WHEN METAL WAS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC ..NOT THE MONEY!A LOT OF THE SONGS ARE LIKE STUFF BY '' SANCTUARY '' '' NEVERMORE '' '' CRIMSON GLORY ''A BIT OF OLD BLACK SABBATH AND MAINLY '' CANDLEMASS '' ..ESPECIALLY HIS SINGING -WHICH ACCENTS THE MUSIC SO WELL !AND THE MUSIC COULDN'T BE ANY HEAVIER !ALL THE SONGS ARE REALLY GOOD AND HEAVY AS HELL!THERE ISN'T A WEAK ONE ON THE CD ..SO IF YOU WANT SOMETHING REFRESHING AND WHAT GREAT METAL USED TO SOUND LIKE -THEN GET THIS CD TODAY!!AND GET THEIR OTHER 2 AS WELL ..IT'LL BE THE BEST NIGHT YOU'VE HAD AS FAR AS NEW METAL IS CONCERNED IN A LONG WHILE.. KEEP METAL ALIVE!! I've had this cd for a while and never played it for one reason or another..but wow what an amazing band. The track 'Final Solution' is amazing. If you want classic priest, these guys can deliver. This is what the return of heavy metal is all about! Not rap-metal, or hippity hop or any of that nonsense, but true, melodic, gritty and in-your-face-rock. As the rest of the world rejoices with countless new bands of true heavy metal, and has never forgotten the true classics of the genre, the U.S., aside from a small legion of loyal fans, fell somewhat behind, maybe because of the lack of support of major record companies, radio stations, and televison (MTV, here's prime material for the return of HEADBANGER'S BALL!!!)... but with CAGE, it really begins... if you are a fan of power and heavy metal, CAGE is a must-have in your collection! Spread the word, true metal is back, and CAGE are the chosen ones to lead the way!!! Average Rating:![]() |

Secrets of AstrologyReviewsLana shows off her stunning vocal capabilities here and it especially shows on Secrets of Astrology triade (suite). "Guardian Angel" is also my favorite but most of the other tracks are recycling same hooks and harmonies. Speed of Sound song is AWESOME!!!Worth buying!!!!!Wish she would come to Cleveland! Wow!!Her vocals are awesome.Speed of sound ROCKS.I wish she would come to CLEVELAND!!! This is the 'real' alternative music. I first heard Lana Lane on a sampler disc that a friend lent me, and subsequently hunted down Secrets Of Astrology . I have had this disc for well over a year now, and I've yet to get sick of it. Lana Lane possesses the type of voice that I haven't heard in a long time - rich, powerful, full of emotion and fire. She does vocally bear a passing resemblence to Ann Wilson, and that's not bad company to keep. Lane and her husband/colloborator Erik Norlander have produced a brilliant disc of in your face material that announces what it is, right off the top. The Astrology Suite/Secrets Of Astrology/Postlude is the starting point. kudos to guitarist Arjen Lucassen, and especially drummer Ed Wharby, who is rock steady and shows his flash on songs like Speed Of Sound. Above all though, is the quality of Lane's voice. She is more than a screamer, as tracks like Alexandria, The Bell, and Guardian Angel prove. I have since started to track down her back catalogue, which is large. She does have some uneven albums, but there is no quibbling with Secrets Of Astrology; It packs a punch, gets in your face, and is topped off by the type of voice I had thought had disappeared a Decade ago. Well Done, Lana, you've convinced me! The "American Queen of Progressive and Symphonic Rock" has a decent enough voice-- strong enough for metal, anyways. I would not classify this album as progressive rock, however; it is more heavy metal, more specifically 80s hair-band stuff. The musicianship is decent enough, but the material never rises above the ordinary, and even after several listens I find it a struggle to recall any of the songs. Average Rating:![]() |
