The Complete I Ching: The Definitive Translation by the Taoist Master Alfred HuangReviewsMaster Huang did a great job translating the I Ching into English with an insider's point of view. Translation and commentary with its originality and historical context as if the reader encounters it for the first time is helpful. The reader sees the beginning and its development and has a sense of understanding the intent of the book as Master Huang translated it. As Master Huang indicated, Confucianism and Taoism based their philosophies from the knowledge and wisdom of the I Ching, and it sustained the Chinese's way of life in the past two thousand years. I find it helpful of knowing where one is; making the appropriate change of decision will lead one to the appropriate end result or doing nothing and ride the wave until it comes to an end. it's definitely a nice book to add to your library. i would pass on purchasing any coins, though. that was a waste of money... By far, this is one of the best English-interpreted understanding of the Chinese I-Ching. In fact, it puts other English interpreted versions pale in comparison. I-Ching is really a Chinese heritage and most, if not all, of Chinese Philosophy and understanding comes from I-Ching (as a source). What the book lacks is to show how each of the I-Ching hexagrams or Gua (total 64 Guas with 384 "Yaos" or lines of Wisdom) is rooted to which Chinese Philosophy and how in Modern days, they can be applied successfully. A Note: Under teh Preface Section III, 2nd Paragraph, the line should states that there should be 384 and NOT 386 Yao Texts (since 64 Guas multiply by 6 Yaos per Gua will give us = 384 Yao Texts!). Steven Lim (RSTN Consulting - Singapore). Alfred Huang's translation of the Yi-Jing is one of the few books with "definitive" in the title that actually is what it says. The introduction to each hexagram offers up snippets from Wilhelm and Blofeld, two earlier translators whose works are widely read. As a scholar of the etymology of Chinese characters I found Huang's use of the most ancient ideographs to be a nice touch--some of these characters go a long way to making sense of what have become rather obscure meanings of the hexagram names. Each hexagram chapter ends with additional information which encourages the reader to explore further connections. After initially reading R.L. Wing I go to Huang's translation for greater depth of explanation, and I am never disappointed. I FOUND THE DELIVERY OF THIS PURCHASE WAS EXCELLENT AND DELIVERED AS PROMISED. THE BOOK ITSELF WAS IN PRISTINE CONDITION AND HAVE ENJOYED IT EVERYDAY SINCE I HAVE HAD IT.THE REVIEW ON THE BOOK WAS GREAT AND TO THE POINT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL WAY OF DOING BUSINESS. SINCERELY, HECTOR R. MARTINEZ Average Rating:![]() |

The Complete Guide to the TarotReviewsgreat book for the rider tarot deck or any deck really! love the fact that its got lots to read and understand the tarot deck compared to some books. very informative and easy to understand. Probably one of the best books i've bought. im not to good and reading tarot cause it can mean soooo many things when u read the answer, but this gives you at least somewhat of a good understanding when u read what the card means :) i think its great, thanks! ~~Audrey This should not be your first book if you are wanting to learn about Tarot cards. For that, choose the beginning guide by Joan Bunning. This book has much shorter interpretations of each card, but does provide an excellent description into the symbolism and colors found on each card. It then shows how these symbols/colors show up on other cards and help you understand the Tarot deck as an interconnected whole. The major drawback to the book are the card graphics, which are in black and white. Therefore, you have to have a deck with you to understand the color descriptions. Overall, a good book to help you understand the cards, but it shouldn't be the only book you read and refer to. I use the Tarot, mostly for entertainment, so when looking for a Tarot book, I had a few tough demands. The book had to be very in depth, and not ambiguous. The book had to focus on the Rider-Waite deck. The book had to be good for beginners, and the book had to be pretty inexpensive. This book met all of my demands very well. I enjoy using the tarot, and so far all of my readings have been very accurate. I strongly suggest this as a reference to any beginner. I love this book and even wore out my copy and had to buy another. It is the best companion book to go with the Waite Tarot cards. It shows you how to lay out the cards and the significance of each card in each position. I learned to read the cards quickly with this book. I found the printing hard to read, and the illustrations in the paperback were very poor. The description for each card is fair for the Major Arcana, but for the Minor Arcana it simply repeats what anyone can see on the card. (Or could see, if the illustrations were better.) The divinatory meanings seem mostly derivative of Waite. There are many better books out there, IMO. Average Rating:![]() |

The Power of Birthdays, Stars & Numbers: The Complete Personology Reference GuideReviewsThe Secret Language of Birthdays is better than this one. Bought this based on reviews but not nearly as happy with this. There is just about everything you would want to know about yourself and others. There is a tremendous amount of information and it takes a while to absorb it but it is definitely worth it. this is very entertaining, pretty right on, has just enough detail, and isn't tough to go through. The service was great, price was great, would reccomend and buy from again! Good for a party! I dont really believe in horoscopes, but my birthday page was incredibly accurate. Still a good read if you know its just for fun. When you bring it out at a party everyone wants to borrow it or take it home :). Tell them to get their own copy on Amazon. Very disappointing. I ordered this book, got confirmation of my order and then was notified that it was not available. The price was very inexpensive....for all the good that does if, in fact, you don't get the book!
